About Us

Who We Are

Helping customers since 1993

Our History

Loaves and Fishes began more than thirty years ago, primarily as a grass roots street meals service. Helping the destitute and hungry, at the most basic level, keeping people alive.

As the years passed, the service evolved and began delivering meals inside a church, with a restaurant type setting. Thus allowing a sense of normalcy and dignity for those receiving what was still free food and support.

As things became tougher for those most in need, Loaves and Fishes Foodbank began. Pre covid, this was delivering possibly 30 food parcels a week maximum.

We now provide 150 plus food parcels every week. We help families, pensioners, veterans... every sector of society.

How we help our customers

At Loaves and Fishes, we understand that food scarcity is just one aspect of the challenges individuals and families are facing. Poverty can lead to isolation, which in turn can lead to feelings of hopelessness and despair.

That's why we're dedicated to providing holistic support that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of our community.

Our mission goes beyond simply distributing food. We offer a range of services, including workshops and counseling, to help empower customers to break free from the cycle of poverty, and build a brighter future.

Meet Lesley

Lesley has lived in East Kilbride all of her life and lives with her family of six with her three dogs! She has been involved in community groups and projects all of her life, including youth group leader, Volunteer Co-Ordinater, Project Co-Ordinator, Company Director and now Chair and Co-Ordinator of Loaves and Fishes Food Bank!

Lesley has been a part of Loaves and Fishes for five years and knows and understands every element of the organisation. She has made up food parcels, put away donations, purchased and budget for stock purchase and ultimately  her favourite role… that of being front of house and engaging with our customers giving out food parcel and building relationships.

"It is an honour to be Chairperson of Loaves and Fishes, it has such an important place in people’s hearts and so much good work has been done for so many cheers by the most amazing people.

As we move forward I hope that I represent Loaves and Fishes in a way that our team are proud of. The most important thing I can do is create an environment of warmth, support and kindness. Free of judgement.

My roles is made up of many tasks including working in the community. I visit schools, churches and local businesses to spread knowledge and awareness of what we do, how people can help and ultimately to say thank you.

We have so much support it’s vital that people know how grateful we are. I hope to continue being part of Loaves and Fishes for as long as we are needed. However, I think we can all agree the day that we can close our doors and not be needed anymore will be a day to celebrate. Sadly I don’t see this happening any time soon."
