Re-opening of Food Bank

Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers who have spent countless hours deep cleaning the food bank, and our generous donations of food and essentials, we are ready to re-open the food bank.

We will be re-opening next week for limited hours and days. Our opening hours will be posted on our web site and on our Facebook page.

Each week there is a dedicated day and hours for donations ONLY.

See info here

Want to make a one-off donation? We are doing our best to limit the spread of the virus by encouraging donors to use online donation services rather than cash.

Each week there is a dedicated day and hours for service user appointments.

See info here for Service User Appointments ONLY

We will have strict social distancing measures in place.

We will be phoning all of our service users from Tuesday to make arrangements for food parcels and essentials. We will not be operating a drop in service at this time.

As we are normally a very busy service, we ask the public and our service users please only come on days and hours we have provided for you. This is for the safety and well-being of our service users, volunteers, and members of the public.

We are keeping informed about the any government announcements regarding COVID19 and may need to make further changes. We will post any changes on our Facebook page and our website.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Thank you & Update

We want to extend a depth of gratitude to so many who have donated to us during our lock down.

We cannot express how much this means to those we support in our community.

We are still taking donations at these locations in East Kilbride if you wish to drop items in our collection boxes.

Have a donation? Please contact us to make arrangements for collection or drop off during our lock down.

We hope to be opening shortly once we have further guidance from officials that it is safe to do so. Please be aware that when we do open, we will likely operate on restricted hours with different procedures. Please be patient with us while we get things in place.

Food, cleaning supplies and  Protective & Sanitising Supplies are especially needed.

We need protective masks for our volunteers. If you can make any, that would be wonderful. See how to make them link here. Any extras made will be given to our care workers in the community.

The Corona Virus has caused an increased demand for goods across the sector and food is scarce on shelves. Do consider a cash donation if you you are unable to find items but still wish to support us. This will allow us to purchase food and essentials once stock becomes available.

We will post on our Facebook pages and our website once we have made the decision to open again. Please check periodically and pass this information to those in need.

Again we thank you for your continued support and well wishes during this challenging time. – Denis Curran MBD, Chair of Loaves and Fishes

We also have collection points at the following locations in East Kilbride if you wish to drop items in our collection boxes.

Giving to Loaves and Fishes

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. The closure is temporary. The safety of our service users, volunteers, and public who donate to us is very important.

We want to reassure the public that we will be up and running shortly. Please keep an eye out for updates.

URGENT! Call Out for Protective & Sanitising Supplies

We are putting measures in place so we can get food and supplies to those in need and reopen the food bank as soon as possible.

To do this, we are asking the public, supermarkets, shops, and health care providers if they can spare the following:

  • Protective masks – still sealed
  • Hand gloves – L
  • Dettol or other antibacterial spray
  • Dettol Antiseptic Disinfectant liquid equivalent
  • Liquid soap
  • Hand sanitiser
  • New /unused bags for life or heavy duty supermarket bags

This will allow us to deep clean the food bank, provide protective packs to our service users, provide protection to volunteers, and to get food and supplies out to the community.

Please contact us directly via email if you are able to help with any of these products and we can arrange collecion or drop off.

We thank you for your for your continued support and understanding as we do our upmost to keep our volunteers, service users, and members of the public safe.

Closure from 17 March until further notice due to COVID19

We have made the difficult decision to close the food bank and the sit down meals at the Renfield Centre are also suspended.

This is due to the growing concerns over the spread of COVID19.

We take the safely and health of our service users, volunteers, and the public who support us, very seriously. We have taken this measure to protect our community from further spread of the virus.

We will not be able to collect any donations during our closure

We will not be able to answer the food bank phone

We will not be able to deliver food or take any requests for deliveries

We ask that any service user and those who are at risk or show symptoms, to please follow all guidance given by the NHS and World Health Organisation.

We ask that organisations and the public to hold on to donations, if you can. As stock is low in shops, we are taking cash donations so we can purchase essential items when stock returns.

For more information on cash donations please see here.

We will post on our Facebook pages and our website once we have made the decision to open again. Please check periodically and pass this information to those in need.

We thank you for your understanding and patience whilst we get through this.
